Detailed market classification across each category, with analysis using similar metrics

Executive summary

During the review period, tourist volumes in Spain decreased due to the country’s worsening economic conditions, and declining price competitiveness of coastal tourism. The country’s inbound tourist volume expanded marginally at a CAGR of 0.22% during the review period (2008?2012) and is expected to record a forecast-period (2013?2017) CAGR of 0.84%. However, government expenditure on tourism was relatively low at EUR160.0 billion, representing 15.2% of total GDP in 2012, in comparison with neighboring countries such as France, which spent EUR197.6 billion. This may have an adverse impact on the travel and tourism sector in the country.

Key highlights

Given the current global growth prospects and weak domestic demand, Timetric expects the Spanish economy to contract by 1.5% in 2013 before recording positive growth of 0.8% in 2014. The weak labor market conditions are expected to directly affect personal income and consumer purchasing power in 2013. However, the economy is expected to improve in 2014 as the recently presented 2014 budget eases some of the austerity measures with the projected recovery in sight.
At the end of June 2013, the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism launched Spain’s new official tourism website: www.spain.info. The site is now more an interactive tool, making it easier for tourists to use and navigate. Tourists can also book transport and lodging through the site, making it a key sales channel for Spanish tourism providers.

Football is a major attraction in cities such as Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia and Seville, which have the largest stadiums in the country. The largest is the Camp Nou in Barcelona, with a capacity of over 99,000. Football enthusiasts frequently travel to Spain to see some of the world’s most celebrated teams play, and interest in football is constantly expanding. Five new large stadiums, with estimated capacities ranging between 32,000 and 75,000, will be built and opened by 2016 in Madrid, Bilbao, Zaragoza, Valencia and Palma de Mallorca.

The Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism launched a campaign to promote domestic tourism in 2013. The campaign featured the slogan: “Spain, the destination that's part of you.” This initiative was taken to stimulate domestic tourist demand and encourage people to take advantage of Spain's diverse tourism offerings.

The Balearic Islands were the leading tourist destination in June 2013 with 1.7 million tourists visiting the region, 9% more than the previous year. The second-most-popular destination was Catalonia with 1.6 million tourists, up by 6.7%. Andalusia was visited by 817,221 inbound tourists which represents an annual growth of 2.5%.

For leisure tourism, the popular destinations for outbound Spanish tourists in 2011 were the UK, Italy, Germany and France. Most tourists visited these destinations on low-cost flights. Cruises also had a crucial role in 2011, and many outbound Spanish tourists aim to take at least one cruise in their lifetime.

International Airlines Group is positioning its budget carrier Vueling to grow in Spain with an order for 220 Airbus A320 medium-haul aircraft. In this up to 120 new aircraft will enable Vueling to continue its expansion and replace some of its older fleet by 2020. IAG also ordered 62 A320neo, a more fuel-efficient version set to come out in 2015, which could be used by British Airways, Iberia or Vueling.

Hotels in AndalucĂa and the Canary Islands have seen a significant rise in tourist arrivals and expenditure; Valencia recorded the strongest growth of 28%. In contrast, Madrid recorded a decrease in both tourist arrivals and expenditure in 2012, with a total of 3.4 million foreign arrivals.
A significant number of new electric rental cars are expected to be introduced in Spain in 2013, as a result of rising consumer price sensitivity and attempts by rental companies to broaden their services. The number of diesel- and petrol-powered cars will gradually decline over the coming years in favor of electric cars.

There is huge potential for growth in the Spanish travel intermediaries industry due to the country’s improving economy, increasing levels of leisure and business travel, and rapid development of e-commerce. The industry is expected to record lower prices for travel products, as travel intermediaries reduce their prices to compete with the large number of new entrants that are expected to enter the country over the forecast period.

Promotional activities by the tourism authority, coupled with relatively stable economic conditions, were the key growth drivers. Contactless credit cards(http://www.researchmoz.us/credit-cards-uk-september-2013-report.html) present an opportunity for providers to encourage customers to use their cards more frequently. Ownership and usage of these cards remains relatively low, however. Going forward, providers can develop the link between the rewards customers receive and contactless technology. This should help to demonstrate that using cards for everyday purchasing can boost the rewards customers receive and that it ‘pays’ to use a credit card like a debit card.

2) Global Banking and Payment Smart Cards Market 2012-2016

Global Banking (http://www.researchmoz.us/global-banking-and-payment-smart-cards-market-2012-2016-report.html)and Payment Smart Cards market to grow at a CAGR of 12.97 percent over the period 2012-2016. One of the key factors contributing to this market growth is the increasing need for a tamper-resistant payment system. The Global Banking and Payment Smart Cards market has also been witnessing an increasing adoption of near-field communication payments. However, the high initial cost of development and deployment of smart cards could pose a challenge to the growth of this market.

3) 2020 Foresight Report: Self-Service Branch Banking

The retail banking industry’s (http://www.researchmoz.us/2020-foresight-report-self-service-branch-banking-report.html)banking channel has evolved from traditional full-service branch banking to alternate channels such as online, mobile and self-service. Full-service branches still play a key role in the distribution of banking products and services as banks rely on these branches to generate the vast majority of revenue. However, the operating expenses and infrastructural investments associated with full-service branches encourage banks to consider low-cost self-service branch banking to expand their market presence.

2020 Foresight Report: No Safe Havens - Changes in Offshore Private Banking and Branch Network

Researchmoz presents this most up-to-date research on 2020 Foresight Report: No Safe Havens - Changes in Offshore Private Banking and Branch Network Development in a Multi-Channel World.

2020 Foresight Report: No Safe Havens - Changes in Offshore Private Banking

Governments globally have been taking initiatives to curb offshore tax evasion for many years. However, this phenomenon has assumed increased urgency since 2008–2009 when economies across the world, developed nations in particular, were severely impacted financially. Their prime targets have been offshore tax havens such as Switzerland and Singapore. Coordinated and individual actions taken by different jurisdictions have significant ramifications for offshore wealth management companies and other institutions whose business is significantly driven by offshore deposits.

The economy at the forefront of fighting offshore tax evasion is the US. It has entered into agreements with several nations to ensure that their financial institutions implement the provisions of the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA), passed by US Congress. Under FATCA, the financial institutions of partner nations are required to give details of accounts held by US taxpayers with them, or be subject to a withholding tax of 30%.

Jurisdictions such as the UK have been signing bilateral agreements with other economies, under which limited timeframe disclosure facilities are being offered to offshore account holders to come clean on their wealth or face penalties. Wealth management companies in tax havens entering into these agreements are expected to handle significant funds through tax payments by offshore account holders. This comes under the category of tax information exchange agreements, whereby financial institutions in treaty countries are required to submit client data.

Scope

This report provides a detailed analysis of measures being taken by some developed nations and emerging economies to mitigate tax evasion offshore by their tax payers
It explains the key provisions of some of the important acts such as the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act in the US
It details the measures being taken by certain tax havens to reduce their geographies from being used to evade taxes
It details the impact on wealth management companies that had previously derived a major share of their business from offshore wealth
It details the market entry strategies and product, target and customer retention strategies used by various wealth management companies in the wealth management industry
It suggests the new business models and marketing strategies to be adopted and the new geographies that have to be targeted by wealth management companies in tax havens to keep their business growing

Reasons to buy

Understand the significance of the measures being taken by some nations such as the US, the UK and Germany to tax the offshore concealed wealth of their taxpayers
Comprehend the impact on wealth management companies whose business is driven mainly by offshore wealth

As the costs of branch banking increased in the 80s and 90s, banks attempted to reduce costs by reliance on centers, mobile and online channels to lower costs and improve service. The digitization of banks has made transactions more convenient, but the need for human interaction will prompt branch banking’s evolution. Retail branches remain the core banking channel, though the advancement of technology and associated changes in consumer behavior has led to the growth of alternative channels for transactions.

Over the last two decades, new delivery channels such as ATMs, call centers, online banking and mobile banking have become formidable substitutes for bricks-and-mortar banking. Banking customers are using a mix of delivery channels to fulfill their banking needs. Increasing internet and mobile penetration has led to the growth of online and mobile banking channels, leading to the reduction of local branches. Despite the decline of bank branches in some key developed countries, some growth is expected from new market entrants who are aggressively increasing their networks.

A number of branches appeared in emerging economies to provide basic banking facilities to rural populations. In March 2013, the Finance Minister of India inaugurated 300 new branches in a single day in rural India. Some growth is expected from retailers such as Wal-Mart who have acquired banking licenses in several nations. Given the choice, customers will usually pass automated devices and queue for a human teller. Human customer service offers a convenient mode of transaction while also being capable of more complex tasks. Customers and banks typically acknowledge that some of the basic transactions, including credit application and financial advice, still require a branch visit.

2020 Foresight Report: Retail Bank Loyalty Programs

The global economic slowdown adversely affected the banking industry of key markets across the globe. To improve their financial performance, banks implemented cost-saving initiatives. As part of such initiatives, banks launched loyalty programs through low-cost channels such as mobile platforms and social media sites. Since the increase in spending on loyalty programs is directly proportional to the growth of the card payments channel, banks recorded a positive growth in card usage volumes. During the review period, Australia’s card spending recorded a CAGR of 10.64% during 2008–2012. The UK, the US and France also recorded respective CAGRs of 2.89%, 3.76% and 4.05%, despite high saturation levels and a financial crisis.
